THE ADAPTED HOSTEL KEY TO OUR SUSTAINABILITY
LA PALMA PARA TODOS - LA PALMA FOR ALL also a factor of inclusion and social well-being
It is necessary to think about the need for our island to be prepared to receive tourism with reduced mobility. All over the world there are deficits of facilities of this type and this can be a differential factor in attracting visitors. It is also an opportunity for young people with disabilities to be integrated into quality work.
Our challenge is to design fully adapted, accessible facilities, a pleasant environment, with quality services, and create a service cooperative capable of managing them while integrating young people with disabilities
This cooperative will provide services to help members' dependency and disability, as well as to hostel guests who require it; In addition, they will be tourist guides in the week of activities that we offer our guests, they will run the bar-restaurant, the pool, and the rest of the facilities. The hostel has two objectives: economic sustainability of cohousing-residence and generation of social well-being and inclusion, generating some jobs that could well be executed by people with disabilities.
How it will work
First, economic sustainability, return the investment made by the cohousing-residence partners. A part of the income, attributed to the concept of housing, will be paid by the cohousing cooperative, part as amortization of the investment, part as aid for the payment of aid and therapies that are needed, for cleaning, et. Second, the generation of social welfare; On the one hand, we generate a tourist resource that does not exist, such as a facility prepared and adapted for people with disabilities to visit the island, and on the other, we provide an opportunity for quality jobs, promoting the social economy through cooperativism.
OUR NEXT STEPS
On June 30, the transition to a cooperative will be decided with people who have decided to be in the project. During the month of July the statutes will be approved and the cooperative will be formalized. In parallel, we will be asking for budgets and choosing materials and industrials, with the help of our architecture team. Once the budget is closed, we will look for financing while we will ask for a work permit, so that we can place orders and start construction as soon as possible. We think it will be on October 1st. Our intention is that they are finished and can be inaugurated on February 1, 2021.
